Liposuction Still Reigns as America’s Most Popular Cosmetic Procedure

The decision to undergo cosmetic surgery, or receive an aesthetic treatment, is no longer seen as being only about vanity. More and more people are choosing to undergo cosmetic treatments as a way to maintain a more active professional life, as well as uplift self-esteem and transform one’s lifestyle.  As more and more people choose to undergo plastic surgery, and the number of cosmetic procedures performed yearly is almost two million, new scientific and technological breakthroughs produce a slew of new options. Nonetheless, among all the new options and treatments available, there are still some classic procedures that Body-Contours-Liposuctionremain at the top of the popularity list due to their time-tested results, safety, and reliability.

Liposuction is one of these top choice procedures, and in many cosmetic surgery centers, liposuction is still the most common procedure performed. Approximately 200,000 liposuction procedures are performed yearly in the U.S., a number that remains constant year after year.  The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) discovered that among their 2,600 members, liposuction was the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure. Similarly, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) found in its own research that liposuction surgery is among the top five most commonly performed procedures among their members.

Many innovations and technological advances have improved, enhanced and specialized liposuction procedures, and there are now several options for procedures involving the technique of suctioning fatty deposits from areas all over the body.  Liposuction is now used on all areas of the body from chin to ankles to improve shape, contours and proportions by suctioning fatty deposits, and, in some cases, transferring them to other areas. New technologies have produced such combined, specialized modalities as ultrasound-assisted liposuction, which melts stubborn fatty deposits before the fat is extracted, allowing surgeons to contour tricky problem areas where fat is more concentrated and less easy to reach.  Even when patients choose to undergo more invasive surgical procedures, these are also often enhanced with liposuction procedures that produce precise skin tightening to restore youthful definition and contouring.
