What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation, or augmentation mammoplasty, is a specialized cosmetic surgery designed to enhance breast size, shape, and volume using implants. Though this procedure is most often performed to improve the look of natural breasts, augmentation can also recreate your shape after a mastectomy, biopsy, or injury.

During your consultation, Dr. Farber and his team work with you to determine your surgical and cosmetic needs. With your best interest in mind and a complete understanding of your goals, we can help you achieve a beautiful new figure.

What Is Small Breast Augmentation?

Small breast augmentation, also known as breast enhancement with implants, is a procedure designed to increase the size and volume of the breasts using implants. Unlike larger breast augmentations that aim for dramatic size changes, small breast augmentation focuses on achieving a subtle, natural-looking enhancement. This procedure is ideal for those who feel that their breasts are too small, are asymmetrical, or have lost volume over time due to factors such as aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations.

During your consultation, Dr. Farber will work closely with you to understand your aesthetic preferences and ensure that the augmentation is tailored to achieve the most harmonious and flattering result for your body type. With careful planning and a range of implant options, small breast augmentation can give you the balanced, natural look you’ve always desired

Benefits of Small Breast Augmentation

Enhanced Proportions and Symmetry: One of the primary benefits of small breast augmentation is the improvement of breast symmetry and proportion. Whether you have naturally asymmetrical breasts or have experienced a loss of volume, implants can help create a more even, balanced appearance that enhances the overall contours of your figure.

Subtle, Natural Results: For many patients, subtlety is key. Small breast augmentation is designed to enhance the size and shape of your breasts without making drastic changes. Dr. Farber will help you choose an implant size and shape that complements your body to achieve a natural look. The goal is to add just enough volume to enhance your natural silhouette while maintaining the proportions of your body.

Increased Confidence: Small breast augmentation is often a life-changing procedure, improving the way women feel about their bodies. With a fuller bust that suits your figure, many patients experience a significant boost in self-confidence, helping them feel more comfortable and empowered in their everyday lives.

Restoration of Volume After Pregnancy or Weight Loss: Pregnancy and weight loss can cause breasts to lose volume, elasticity, and shape. Small breast augmentation helps restore this volume, providing a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. For those who want to regain the fullness of their breasts after life changes, small breast augmentation offers a reliable and safe solution.

Customizable Implant Options: When it comes to choosing the right implants for small breast augmentation, Dr. Farber offers various options to ensure the best results. Implants come in different materials, shapes, and sizes, including saline and silicone options. The silicone implants, known for their natural look and feel, are often preferred for those seeking a subtle yet effective enhancement.

What Should You Know Before Breast Augmentation?

Before surgery, we recommend that each patient consider their long-term aesthetic goals and the impact breast enhancement will have on their lives and lifestyles. There are several methods used to determine how you will feel and look with your new enhanced figure. During your consultation, you and Dr. Farber will work together to determine which implant material is best for you. Dr. Farber is recognized as an expert in breast augmentation, and his patient consultations are the ideal opportunity to express concerns and ask questions about your upcoming procedure so that you feel at ease. Dr. Farber will discuss the different sizes and allow you to try on specially designed devices to decide which is the best fit for you.

With biodimensional planning and the use of the latest technology, Dr. Farber can help you achieve your desired appearance. While both implants are made with a silicone outer shell, saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. Silicone implants are filled with a safe, medical-grade silicone—the same non-toxic material found in other medical devices. Because of their natural look and feel, silicone implants are most commonly recommended.

When Is It Time to Consider Breast Augmentation?

At Farber Plastic Surgery, breast augmentation is a highly personalized procedure. As a boutique plastic surgery practice, we cater to patients’ specific desires and goals by customizing their treatment plans. Dr. Farber understands that patients seek augmentation for a variety of reasons and ensures that your surgical plan is designed to match your expectations. Breast augmentation improves the balance of your breast contours while increasing the fullness and projection of the breasts. Surgery often results in increased self-confidence and improved self-esteem.

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgeries, and its outcomes can be enhanced with additional treatments, depending on patients’ needs and concerns. If you are also experiencing varying degrees of breast drooping, you may need a breast lift as a part of your individualized treatment plan. A lift is designed to raise and reshape the breast by removing excess skin and tightening surrounding tissues to create a new breast contour. During your consultation, Dr. Farber will determine which procedure is necessary to address your specific concerns. While both surgeries can be performed separately, certain conditions are best addressed by a combination of methods performed simultaneously.

Your Motiva Breast Implant Options

When considering breast augmentation or small breast augmentation, the choice of implant plays a crucial role in the outcome. Motiva breast implants have become a popular choice for many patients seeking a natural, beautiful, and durable result. These implants combine advanced technology, superior materials, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort. At Farber Plastic Surgery, we’re proud to offer Motiva implants to help our patients achieve the results they’ve always desired.

Manufactured by the global leader in breast implant technology, Motiva implants are designed with the latest innovations and advanced technologies to enhance patient satisfaction and safety. They feature a soft, cohesive silicone gel that closely mimics the feel of natural breast tissue, creating a smooth, round appearance.

With unique features like a smooth surface, anatomical shape, and adaptive gel, Motiva implants allow for a highly customizable solution to meet each patient’s aesthetic goals. Whether you’re looking for a subtle enhancement or a more noticeable change in volume, Motiva implants offer a range of options that can help you achieve the figure you desire.

Benefits of Motiva Breast Implants

  • Natural Look and Feel: One of the most significant advantages of Motiva implants is their incredibly natural feel. Thanks to the highly cohesive silicone gel, Motiva implants feel soft and similar to natural breast tissue, making them a great option for patients who desire a more subtle and realistic result. The adaptive gel inside the implant responds to pressure and movement, providing a soft, lifelike appearance and texture.
  • Durability and Longevity: Motiva implants are designed for longevity and minimal maintenance. With an advanced shell that offers greater strength and durability, these implants are rupture- and leakage-resistant. As Motiva’s design focuses on durability and long-term performance, you can enjoy your new breast shape for many years with fewer concerns. In addition, Motiva implants come with a 10-year warranty, providing greater peace of mind to patients.
  • Reduced Risk of Complications: Motiva’s innovative design significantly reduces the risk of complications such as capsular contracture (the hardening of tissue around the implant). The smooth, biocompatible surface of the Motiva implants reduces friction with the surrounding tissue, lowering the likelihood of scar tissue formation and offering a more comfortable experience post-surgery.
  • Customizable Options: Motiva implants come in multiple shapes, sizes, and profiles to accommodate different body types and aesthetic preferences, ensuring every patient receives a personalized solution that complements their unique anatomy. Whether you prefer a natural, moderate profile or a fuller, more dramatic look, Motiva implants can be tailored to fit your specific goals.
  • Smooth, Minimal Scarring: Motiva implants have a smooth surface that provides additional comfort and helps reduce the formation of scar tissue. In addition, the surgery for Motiva implants typically involves smaller, more discreet incisions, which leads to less visible scarring, further enhancing the final aesthetic result.
  • Innovative Technology: The Motiva Ergonomix™ and Motiva Round™ Options: Motiva offers two distinct types of implants—Ergonomix™ and Round™—allowing patients to choose the one that best suits their desired look.
    • Motiva Ergonomix™: These implants are designed with a shape that mimics the natural sloping of the breast, offering a more anatomical, realistic appearance. The gel inside the Ergonomix™ implants adapts to the body’s position, providing a smooth, natural result in both standing and lying down positions.
    • Motiva Round™: If you’re looking for a fuller, more rounded look, the Motiva Round™ implants offer a more voluminous appearance with enhanced projection, giving you a fuller and youthful look.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

Women who are considering breast augmentation or small breast augmentation should be relatively healthy, non-smokers, and neither pregnant nor breastfeeding. Smoking has many adverse effects on the body, such as impacting the healing process and making the formation of scar tissue more likely. If you are a smoker and contemplating any surgical procedure, know that Dr. Farber recommends all patients stop smoking at least one month before surgery.

Small breast augmentation is ideal for women looking for a slight increase in size or a subtle correction of asymmetry. For many women, a subtle enhancement can make a significant difference in how they feel about their bodies. Larger breast augmentation is ideal for women looking for more drastic changes in their breast size. During your consultation, Dr. Farber strives to have an understanding of your long-term desires and will work with you to determine the best approach based on your personal goals.

If you are considering breastfeeding later in life, we invite you to discuss this goal with our surgical team. During your consultation, Dr. Farber will discuss any concerns you may have and provide additional recommendations and information to create successful surgical outcomes

Your Breast Augmentation Surgery in Boca Raton & Palm beach county with Dr. Farber

Whether you’ve chosen breast augmentation or small breast augmentation, breast implants are placed within the breast pocket either beneath the pectoral muscle (submuscular) or beneath the breast itself (subglandular). Because submuscular placement provides more soft tissue coverage of the implant, it creates a natural breast slope and is the most popular method of implant placement. Dr. Farber will discuss each option to tailor the operative plan to each patient.

Incisions are made in inconspicuous areas, such as under the areola or the breast fold. The type of incision made is based on the implant used and the individual’s anatomy. Once the implant is in place and the incisions are closed, the patient is taken to a recovery area until they are ready to be released. Typically, patients can leave approximately one hour after surgery has been completed.

Before the day of surgery, prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medications are made available and should be obtained before the procedure. Specific postoperative instructions and support garments are provided to aid in recovery. Strict adherence to these instructions is vital to the success of any surgery.

Recovering from your Implant Procedure

Recovery from breast augmentation surgery can take several weeks. Patients will need to rest until they are fully recovered. Discomfort will typically subside within the first five days after surgery, but some may experience swelling and residual soreness for a few weeks. It is essential to the recovery process not to attempt exercise and normal activities until you have been cleared to do so.

Although the result of the breast surgery can be seen immediately following surgery, as the swelling subsides and the skin stretches to accommodate the new volume, the results will become evident. Incision lines will eventually fade and are hidden within the folds of the skin or can be hidden by clothing, including most bathing suits.

Breast Implant Replacement

Breasts can change over time. Aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal factors, and gravity can all play a big role in the need for additional procedures. Some patients may consider a breast lift or a change in implants several years after surgery to restore the youthful contour they desire. An annual examination should be performed to evaluate the health of your breast and the integrity of the implant.

BREAST AUGMENTATION FAQs

Preparing for plastic surgery usually comes with questions. We’ve answered some of our most frequent questions about breast augmentation below and are always happy to provide personalized answers during your consultation, pre-op, and post-operative visits.

Breast augmentation cost depends on many factors, including the type of implants used and the complexity of the procedure. We’ll provide a detailed cost estimate at your consultation. We’ll also talk about payment methods, scheduling, and financing options. Surgery isn’t a time to price shop. Choose a board-certified plastic surgeon you’re comfortable with, even if they cost a little more.

We invite you to come in for a consultation, where Dr. Farber will evaluate you and ask you questions about your cosmetic goals and expectations for the procedure. Then, he can give you an accurate cost estimate for your surgery.

Pain tolerances vary substantially from one woman to another, but overall, most report that breast augmentation is very tolerable. We provide pain medications to help you rest more comfortably during the first few days. If you experience unexpected pain during your recovery, contact our office, and we’ll talk about options for decreasing discomfort during recovery.

Some scarring is expected after breast surgery, but it is rarely noticeable after the initial healing is complete. Dr. Farber takes great care in minimizing scarring by making incisions in discreet locations, such as under the breast or around the areola. Over time, these scars fade and become less noticeable, often blending with your natural skin folds. The incision placement is carefully chosen based on your body and implant type to ensure the best aesthetic outcome.

We offer both saline and silicone breast implants. Saline implants have the advantage of a lower price point and smaller placement incision. Silicone breast implants are softer and have a more natural feeling. Dr. Farber will help you make the saline vs. silicone decision as you prepare for your surgery.

In most cases, breast augmentation or small breast augmentation procedures do not interfere with your ability to breastfeed. The implant is typically placed either under the muscle or under the breast tissue, which does not disrupt the milk-producing glands. During your consultation, Dr. Farber will discuss your plans for breastfeeding and any concerns you may have. The placement of the implant is carefully considered to minimize any potential impact on future breastfeeding, and many women are able to nurse successfully after breast augmentation.

The breasts go through a period of adjustment for the first several weeks after breast augmentation. The implants will need to soften and settle into their final, natural-looking position. During this time, underwire bras are not usually recommended. Give your breasts time to heal; wait until your implants settle and your incisions are fully healed before wearing an underwire bra, usually about six weeks after surgery. For the first six weeks, wear the surgical bra we provide to properly support your breasts for optimal healing.

While you will notice an immediate improvement in your breast size and shape after breast augmentation or small breast augmentation surgery, the final results will become clearer as the swelling subsides. Your body will need some time to adjust to the new implants. As the skin stretches and settles, the overall appearance will continue to improve. However, it can take several months for your breasts to fully settle into their new position and for the final results to emerge.

You’ll need a little help recovering from surgery. Patients are unable to drive immediately after surgery, and usually for the first few days of recovery. Arrange for a responsible adult to take you home and stay with you for the first couple of days.

Small breast augmentation is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll go home the same day. The surgery usually takes about one to two hours, depending on the complexity of your case. You’ll be closely monitored during your recovery period at the clinic, and most patients are able to return home within an hour or so after the procedure.

Modern breast implants are strong, durable, and long-lasting. We typically do not recommend implant replacement unless there is a problem, like a desire to change breast size or a leak. We always tell our patients that implant replacement is likely after breast augmentation, but usually many years later.

Breast augmentation is a significant surgical procedure, and your body will need months to fully return to normal after the surgery.

Immediately following the procedure, patients need one week of complete rest, with the bare minimum physical activity, to allow the implants to settle and their body to adjust. They then need another two weeks of reduced activity as the swelling subsides and the body slowly heals the incisions made during the procedure.

For these reasons, it is ideal for patients to consider breast augmentation in Tampa and Sarasota during a time of year where can comfortably take some time off work and stay indoors. The holiday season or the summer break offer such an opportunity.

A compression garment supports the breasts, implants, and skin during healing and is a critical part of optimal healing from a breast augmentation.

Wearing a compression garment in the warm summer climate of Tampa, Boca Raton, and Sarasota might not feel ideal, which is why many patients consider breast augmentation in cooler months, from November to March.

Small breast augmentation is specifically designed for women who want to enhance their breast size in a subtle, natural way. Unlike larger augmentations that significantly increase breast volume, small breast augmentation focuses on achieving a more balanced and proportionate look, restoring volume and symmetry without drastic changes. It’s perfect for women looking for a subtle enhancement that complements their natural body.

Small breast augmentation is ideal for women who are generally healthy, non-smokers, and are not pregnant or breastfeeding. If you’re looking to restore volume after pregnancy or weight loss or simply desire a slight increase in size to improve symmetry, this procedure could be a great option for you. Dr. Farber will work with you to understand your aesthetic goals and ensure that small breast augmentation aligns with your desires.

Dr. Farber offers a variety of implant options to suit your needs. The most common choices are saline and silicone implants. Silicone implants are particularly popular for small breast augmentation because they offer a natural feel and appearance, closely resembling the look and texture of natural breast tissue. Together, you and Dr. Farber will decide on the best implant material, size, and shape to create the look you desire.

The results of small breast augmentation can last many years, though factors like aging, weight changes, and gravity can impact the appearance of your breasts over time. Breast implants are not lifetime devices, and some patients choose to undergo breast implant replacement or other procedures several years after surgery to maintain the youthful contour of their breasts.

Yes! Many patients choose to combine breast augmentation or small breast augmentation with other procedures, such as a breast lift, tummy tuck, liposuction, and more, for a more comprehensive transformation. Dr. Farber can discuss your options during your consultation and help you develop a treatment plan tailored to your unique goals.

They undergo rigorous testing to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and safety. Motiva implants are designed for long-lasting results. They come with a 10-year warranty, and many patients find that their implants last many years without needing replacement. However, the longevity of any breast implant depends on factors like age, lifestyle, and overall health. Regular checkups with your surgeon will help ensure the continued health and integrity of your implants.
