What is a Liquid Facelift?
A liquid facelift is a non-surgical, aesthetic procedure that combines several dermal fillers and Botox® injections to create a lifted, contoured appearance. Depending on the unique needs and goals of the patient, fillers such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, or Sculptra® can be used in addition to Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® to create a comprehensively rejuvenated result.
Cosmetic injections can be applied to multiple areas of the face, including:
- The orbital area, where lower eyelid bags can leave a tired appearance
- The upper face to enhance the cheekbones
- The midface to volumize the hollow, gaunt appearance of aging, as well as to improve the parenthesis and smile lines
- The lips to create more volume, improve hydration, and correct wrinkling
- The jawline to create a stronger, angular appearance
- The chin to provide more definition, improve fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance the neck and jawline
Dr. Farber offers several dermal fillers in his clinic. Hyaluronic acid-based (HA) fillers such as Juvéderm® work by attracting water to the skin’s surface. Additional fillers are available to stimulate the body’s ability to produce collagen. Because both moisture and collagen are lost as a person ages, but these dermal fillers restore a youthful appearance in the short term by filling in areas that have lost volume and create long-term results as the body’s collagen is stimulated to tighten and firm the skin. Fillers such as Sculptra® use poly-L-lactic acid stimulate the formation of collagen and restore volume to areas of the face such as the cheeks; they also increase moisture and thickness to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® all contain an ingredient that, when injected into muscles of the face, can temporarily relax and reduce the lines, wrinkles, and creases that are caused by repeated facial expressions. When injected by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Farber, these treatments produce a naturally youthful effect that can pair well with dermal fillers. Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are effective in different ways; together, they are an effective combination used to add volume to sunken tissue and soften facial creases.
Your Non-Surgical Facelift Procedure and Recovery
One of the best qualities of a liquid facelift is the lack of recovery and downtime. The procedure is completed in-office and does not require anesthesia, though some patients do feel that a local numbing agent helps make the treatment comfortable. The dermal fillers or neuromodulators are then injected into the areas of the face previously identified as needing treatment. Some patients will feel a pinch at the injection site, but most find the process easy to complete.
After the injections have been completed, the patient can leave the office. Because there is no anesthesia, they can drive themselves to and from the appointment, and many people return to their normal schedules immediately after treatment. While swelling and bruising at the injection site may occur, this normally fades within a day or two and can be covered with makeup. Most of those who get a liquid facelift are advised to avoid overexertion or heavy exercise for the first few days after their treatment, but almost all return to their normal schedules within a week.
Depending on the types of fillers used, a liquid facelift can last up to two years. In some cases, touch-ups may be necessary as the effects of dermal fillers typically last longer than those produced by neurotoxins. During your consultation and appointment, Dr. Farber will advise you on whether you may need touch-ups in the future.

Who is a Good Candidate for a Liquid Facelift?
Liquid facelifts are good options for those who are experiencing lines, wrinkles, or loss of volume and are not yet ready or do not require a surgical facelift. A liquid facelift can produce results that help you look refreshed and many years younger – all without undergoing invasive medical processes. Those who have liquid facelifts see a reduction of wrinkles and lines, the restoration of youthful facial contours; a rested, more relaxed appearance, and healthier-looking skin. Under eye dark circles and bags, sagging jowls, and thin lips can also be addressed with liquid facelift techniques.
Dr. Farber finds that patients who are in good health and who do not want or need surgical facial intervention are good candidates for the liquid facelift. If your main cosmetic issues are a loss of youthful facial contours, depletion of soft tissue volume, and fine lines and wrinkles, you can achieve the results you want with a liquid facelift. For those who are experiencing significant sagging, excess eyelid drooping or other advanced signs of aging, Dr. Farber may suggest a full facelift or other surgical procedures instead.
