We invite you to learn more about what injections of Botox® cosmetic can do to help you look and feel younger, without extensive or invasive procedures. Contact board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Farber, for more information about Botox® in Boca Raton and Palm Beach, FL.

What is Botox®?

Approved by the FDA as an aesthetic treatment in the 1980s, Botox® can be placed into specific muscles, causes controlled relaxation of those muscles. Botox® is usually injected into facial muscles that form expression lines, which helps to soften these signs of aging and prevent the formation of additional wrinkles. When these muscles are relaxed, the lines and wrinkles they form also relax, resulting in a smoother appearance. The process is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime.

Though Botox® is a popular treatment in thousands of med spas, salons, and clinics around the world, it’s important that you only seek Botox® treatments from by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Dr. Farber is experienced and trained in using Botox® for aesthetic purposes. As such, he has extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and knows precisely where the injections should be placed and the amounts of Botox® necessary to produce naturally younger-looking results. The most common treatment areas for these cosmetic injectables are forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and dimpling in the chin.

What is the Botox® Treatment Process and Recovery?

Botox® injections are quick and easy. Patients come into Dr. Farber’s clinic for their injections when they have a free hour in their schedules. Though some are more comfortable having a topical anesthetic applied before the injections, it is usually not necessary. Patients may feel a pinching sensation when the Botox® is injected into their muscles, but the sensation is rarely painful. After the injections have been performed, the patient is free to go about his or her daily routine. Some swelling may occur at the injection sites, but this usually dissipates within several hours and can be easily covered with makeup. Most of those who get Botox® injections return to their normal schedules within hours, though Dr. Farber usually suggests they refrain from physical exertion for at least a day after treatment.

Who is a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Both men and women of all ages are usually good candidates for Botox® as they are noticing lines and wrinkles due to repeated facial expressions but may not display the signs of aging that would require a surgical procedure, such as a brow lift or full facelift. Patients that do require surgery can often enhance their results with Botox®. Ideal candidates are those who are in good health and who have reasonable expectations for the results of their Botox® injections.

Can Botox® Be Combined with Other Treatments?

Botox® treats a very specific sign of aging: lines and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. It cannot restore volume or fullness to the face, and it cannot address sun damage, scarring, or excess skin. Because of this, it is often combined with other treatments to provide comprehensive aesthetic rejuvenation. Common treatments used in combination with Botox® are dermal fillers, microneedling, laser resurfacing, Kybella®, eyelid, brow, face and procedures, and face and neck lifts. Microneedling and laser resurfacing can help with cellular turnover, and to promote collagen, so that sun damage and dull skin are improved; Kybella® can dissolve extra fat under the chin, and dermal fillers can address hollowness or loss of volume to restore youthful facial contours. When Dr. Farber performs Botox® consultations, he first discovers patients’ goals before suggesting additional treatments to complement their treatment.
