Botox has been one of the most popular injectables for cosmetic use for many decades, after being introduced in the 1980s. Botox works by temporarily relaxing muscles at the injection sites, including around the eye to target crow’s feet and between the brows to soften lines called 11s. Treatment creates a smoother appearance and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, forehead, and on the chin – any location where repeat facial expression cause creases in the soft tissue. Botox injection results usually last an average of four to six months.
Dysport is a similar injectable to Botox and is used to relax facial muscles which commonly produce fine lines and wrinkles. The difference between the two is minor but still important to consider; Dysport tends to have more immediate effects that Botox, but the effects may not last quite as long. Dysport also tends to diffuse more than Botox, leading to a softer result. Ultimately, these two injectables are quite similar, but the subtle differences are what may lead Dr. Farber to suggest one or the other, depending on his patient’s unique needs.
Xeomin is a neurotoxin like Botox and Dysport, as it uses botulinum type A to relax muscles that cause expression lines, resulting in a smooth, youthful-looking appearance. The difference between Xeomin and the other two toxin injectables Dr. Farber uses is that Xeomin contains only one ingredient and no additives. For this reason, Dr. Farber may choose it for those who are sensitive to additives.
Both dermal fillers and neurotoxin injectables can be effective alternatives to invasive procedures and produce incredible results. When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Farber, he will take the time to learn more goals for injectable treatment, so you can choose the best type or combination of solutions to achieve your best results. Juvéderm is a hyaluronic-acid-based (HA) dermal filler, like Belotero®. It works by filling in areas of the face that have lost volume or that appear hollow. Juvéderm has an intermediate and is softer than other HA fillers which means it works better for filling in deep wrinkles and folds. Because it is injected slightly deeper into the skin, Juvéderm can also add structure to the cheekbone area and can also be used for lip augmentation. Results of Juvéderm can be seen immediately after treatment and last from one to two years.
Volbella is part of the Juvéderm line and is used to enhance lip volume. By plumping the lips, Volbella adds volume and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that can form due to repeated expressions, smoking, or the natural effects of aging. Volbella can last up to one year with the average patient returning within nine to twelve months for a touch-up.
Vollure is another member of the Juvéderm family and uses hyaluronic acid to treat moderate to severe facial folds, such as the nasolabial folds that occur from the nose to the mouth and ‘marionette lines.’ The lower concentration of hyaluronic acid makes Vollure ideal for smoothing lower parts of the face and results in a longer-lasting, smoother appearance. Most patients experience results from Vollure for up to 18 months.
Volux is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that explicitly targets the jawline, an area found to be a key area concern for many women and men. In addition, this product expands the Juvéderm collection of dermal fillers and offers our patients more options to address cosmetic problems of the lower face.
Volux defines the jawline. It is similar to our other Juvéderm fillers like Voluma XC. Still, it has more cohesively structure and lift capacity and is much firmer, providing that chiseled jawline many of our patients seek. Juvéderm’s proprietary VYCROSS® technology is used in Volux to cross-link the hyaluronic acid particles for longer-lasting benefits.
Radiesse® + Radiesse for Hands
Radiesse is a dermal filler that uses Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel to fill in fine lines and wrinkles, thereby restoring the volume of facial soft tissue. It also helps with natural collagen production, supporting results that can still be seen after the CaHA has been absorbed by the body. Radiesse tends to last longer than HA fillers (up to 18 months) and stimulates collagen. In addition to being used on the face, Radiesse can also be used on the back of the hands to reduce the appearance of veins and tendons, creating full, smooth, and youthful looking skin.

Restylane® & Restylane® Lyft
Restylane is another hyaluronic dermal filler that Dr. Farber often recommends to plump and volumize skin. Restylane® Refyne & Defyne
Restylane Refyne is a specially formulated dermal filler that uses XpresHAn technology to gently and naturally smooth nasolabial folds and marionette lines. The unique technology is designed to support normal facial expressions and is perfect for those who want natural-looking results.
Restylane Defyne is like Refyne but is normally used to treat deeper lines in the nasolabial area and around the nose and mouth (marionette lines). With its innovative crosslinking technology, this HA-based filler is perfect for those who want a more structured filler.
The quality and effectiveness of injectable dermal fillers have only increased in recent years, delivering beautiful, natural-looking results to areas of the face that may be experiencing volume or elasticity deficiencies. Now, Dr. Farber offers a new option for treating patients seeking cheek enhancements with FDA-approved Restylane Contour. Similar to other fillers, Restylane Contour is composed of hyaluronic acid, a compound found naturally inside the body that is responsible for keeping the skin plump and hydrated. Restylane Contour is used for cheek augmentations and the correction of mid-face contour deficiencies for fuller and more youthful-looking facial contours. As an added benefit, Restylane Contour is exceptionally flexible, moving fluidly with your face’s expressions for a very natural-looking outcome.

This means that adults concerned with the appearance of forehead and glabella wrinkles can enjoy longer-lasting results from a single visit to their plastic surgeon.

Sculptra is a dermal filler that uses polylactic acid to stimulate the growth of collagen. Through the formation of a collagen latticework, Sculptra is a good option for full face volumization. This collagen production will help patients to see continued improvement in fine lines and wrinkles and reduction of hollowness for up to two years. Sculptra is perfect for long-term rejuvenation and is recommended for patients who don’t mind waiting a bit to see results and want to minimize touch-ups as much as possible. Sculptra can also be used for soft tissue augmentation of the body, such as for buttock augmentation for those patients who want a non-surgical alternative to buttocks augmentation.
