The E! Network has a new hit TV show on their hands with their show ‘Botched’. ‘Botched’ focuses on 2 board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif and their ability to fix “botched” cosmetic surgeries.
At first, we at Farber Plastic Surgery were skeptical about another TV show sensationalizing plastic surgery and showcasing unrealistic expectations to the public; however, we reconsidered after watching the show. Botched reiterates to the viewers the importance of going to a board-certified plastic surgeon. Sometimes people seek cheaper alternatives with respect to cosmetic surgery. It is easy to get caught up in the savings and forget that surgery on your body is not a place to cut corners.
How to choose the right surgeon for you?
- Always use a board-certified plastic surgeon. The American Board of Plastic Surgery has strict criteria and testing requirements in order for a surgeon to receive board certification. If your doctor is board-certified, it means he or she has met training requirements and has passed several stages of testing that prove his knowledge and expertise. If he or she is not board-certified, you cannot be assured of his qualifications.
- How many of your desired procedure has he performed? It is important to go to a surgeon who routinely performs the surgery you are interested in; however, you also want to make sure that he is not using outdated techniques. The best surgeons continually attend advanced training seminars and conferences throughout their career so that they are always utilizing the best techniques for their patients.
- Always go to several consults before choosing your surgeon. By going to see several doctors, you will ensure that the proposed plan is right for you. You want to make sure you choose a doctor with whom you feel the most comfortable.
