One of the most popular procedures in Plastic Surgery is the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which involves augmentation of buttocks using your own healthy fat. Most patients who undergo liposuction have enough healthy fat to be used for fat grafting elsewhere on their body to add volume, and that’s where the Brazilian Butt Lift came along. The BBL procedure involves fat being removed through liposuction from other parts of the body, purification of the fat, and placement of the purified fat using a precise technique into each buttock to ensure the best possible result. There are many things a patient should be aware of when considering a BBL.
BBL Fact #1:
If your weight changes, so will the projection of your buttocks.
Many patients ask Dr. Farber if they should put on a few extra pounds prior to their BBL surgery. It is important to be aware that the fat injected into the buttock will naturally act the same as the fat everywhere else in your body. If you lose weight, it is likely that you will lose some projection. If you gain weight, the buttocks will act accordingly.
BBL Fact #2:
BBL is considered to be a long-lasting procedure.
Fat grafting is a long-lasting solution to lost volume. While some of the fat cells resorb after injection, Dr. Farber’s technique of harvesting purified, healthy fat cells ensures less resorption and maximum results. Many hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, Vollure, or Voluma only last up to 2 years. Fat grafting is a longer-lasting solution to improving lost volume. If you do not have a lot of fat to harvest through liposuction, another alternative is an injectable called Sculptra. Sculptra promotes your body’s own collagen production and can be used in the buttocks to increase volume.
BBL Fact #3:
Following post-op instructions will allow for the best surgery results.
After fat grafting to the buttocks, Dr. Farber asks that the patient refrains from sitting directly on the buttocks for at least 2 weeks. Patients will have a compression garment for at least 4-6 weeks and a pillow to sit and sleep with. This allows for optimal survival of fat grafting and optimal contour of the grafted area.
